Rome’s reputation as a tennis town has grown steadily over the last three decades and Steve Grissett’s Just Sports and Tennis, 296 West Third Street, has been a lifeline for netters throughout the rapid growth of the sport.
Grissett acquired the business in August of 1977 and has grown it from a tennis shop to a multi-faceted sporting goods supplier. The fact that he’s located across the street from Rome’s downtown tennis center hasn’t hurt.
When Grissett actually bought his building in 1985, it gave him an opportunity to significantly expand from a tennis specialty shop and the business has been growing ever since.
In addition to Rome’s largest variety of tennis racquets, Grissett also has one of the largest assortments of athletic shoes in the Floyd County area. The shop also has a tremendous collection of sports apparel.
Grissett likes to show off his Aetrex Orthotic System, an electronic foot analyzer. The digital device allows Grissett and his staff to help customers analyze foot issues and help customers find the best orthotics or shoe inserts for both function and comfort.
While tennis and running are the driving forces for business at Just Sports and Tennis, the shop also stocks supplies for other sports, even lacrosse, primarily on a seasonal basis.
