The 76th annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Horse Show was held on Saturday, May 11, at 6:30.p.m. The show was originally scheduled for Friday night, but was postponed due to torrential rains. The show grounds were a little wet, but spirits were high when the gate was opened at 6:30 p.m. sharp for the flag horse, Miss the Wolf, ridden by Patrick Thomas of Southern Serenity Ranch, Cedar Grove, Tenn. and owned by the Jim Upchurch family. Schools budget debated

During the Humboldt School Board meeting last week, chairman Philip Hardee was pushing for changes as to how the school system’s budget is developed. He wants the entire board to be a part of the budget planning process. During April’s school board meeting, Hardee challenged the board policy of having a budget committee. According to policy, the budget committee is made up of the superintendent, board chairman and another school board member appointed by the chairman. Native American program
“Native American Indian Music, Dance, Instruments, and Heritage” presented by John Lone Eagle will be at Humboldt Public Library, Wednesday , May 29, at 10 a.m. He is a native American music artist who will show exhibits and instruments from nature.
Boston Marathon Relief concert
A benefit concert for the Boston Marathon Relief Fund will be held at Peaceful Oaks Bed and Breakfast at 636 Barnes Road in Medina Saturday, May 25 at 6 p.m. This charitable fund has been established to send staff, volunteers and amputees wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan to Boston to provide encouragement, guidance and financial support to victims and their families.
